Brian Waniewski


Since 2010, Brian has been Managing Director @ Institute of Play, a design studio focused on creating experiences that make learning irresistible. He is co-founder of the future forecasting firm, Popular Operations. He was trained as a poet and has worked as a management consultant, a literature professor, a cook and a gardener. Most recently, Brian has worked with the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago and other cultural institutions to re-envision engagement for the twenty-first century.

What draws you to the STIA conference?

I first heard about the conference in 2011 from both speakers and attendees and was intrigued to learn more. When the opportunity arose to attend, I was very happy to accept it.

What are you hoping to experience?

Systems thinking in action: what that means and looks like and how it feels. Passionate people working to transform themselves and the world around them.

What are you most passionate about?

Designing experiences where human potential flourishes.

How do you see transformation occurring from this conference?

Hard to say. Very likely it will emerge from the quality of the connections people form through the event and continue to nourish and sustain.

What’s your bigger vision?

I think my bigger vision is currently undergoing a renovation. Let's see what emerges.

What needs to happen for you to evaluate this STIA+ experience as a success?

3 energizing enriching new connections would be a good start.
